Lindsay Slapdowns
The Shoemaker quote reminded me of another time Lindsay pointed out the error of my ways. This time it was my misplaced belief in the existence of centrifugal force.
Clearly, the author of the xkcd webstrip had a similar experience in his formative years:
They're not all quite so nerdy. Well, they're all pretty nerdy. But some of them are good nonetheless.

Hey! Thanks for the comment on my blog.
I went to a Women in Computer Science seminar in June '05, and really fell in love with the Waterloo campus, and got introduced to plenty of wonderful computer sciency things. I've had my fingers crossed since i sent my application!
I don't know if I have the grades, though. Is it as crazy hard to get in as I think it is?

That's pretty reassuring. I've got mid-to-high '80s, and plenty of extracurriculars (plus a part-time job). This whole graduating thing is so nerve-wracking, as it is. It's nice to know I have a shot at Waterloo.
